An historically important and beautifully restored Chartreuse nestling in 73 hectares of its own grounds and woodland. In days gone by an ancient forge existed on the property of which today certain vestiges are still visible. The beautiful lake, which would have formed an important part of the former working forge, still exists but has been carefully maintained to encourage a wealth of plant, insect and bird life. From the lake an active stream flows through the grounds to provide a lovely sense of “back to nature”. In addition to the beautiful formal gardens around the Chartreuse is a large covered eating area with summer kitchen, barbecue and outdoor dining room as well as a comfortable lounging area with sunken open fire pit. The large private pool, which may be heated on request, is set to one side of the grounds and has a large sunbathing terrace and covered poolhouse with lounging cushions. A full time guardian, in a separate cottage, is on hand to help if guests need assistance.
On arrival at the property the Chartreuse flanks the entire left hand side of the grounds with majestic double stone staircase leading up to the first floor entrance. At this level is an impressive hallway, a large comfortably furnished sitting room, a formal dining room with immense round table and traditional wood panelling as well as five bedrooms - 3 doubles with their own bathrooms and two further twin bedded rooms. One of the double bedrooms has French doors leading out to a delightful terrace overlooking the grounds. From the entrance hallway the original stone stairs lead down to a further twin bedded room, a bathroom with separate WC, a snug with bar and sofas and a breakfast room next to the well equipped kitchen. The kitchen has French doors leading directly out onto a large open air dining terrace.
Opposite the Chartreuse is the delightful and equally beautifully restored Maison d’Amis. The ground floor entrance door leads into a large open plan kitchen/sitting/dining room, to the left of which is a twin bedroom with ensuite bathroom. Stairs lead up from the sitting room to a large landing, off which are three further bedrooms, each with their own bathrooms making a total of four ensuite bedrooms in the Maison d’Amis.
A very elegant ensemble of buildings, beautifully restored to offer exceptionally high quality accommodation and ideally situated to explore and appreciate the best of the sites and restaurants located in this lovely part of France.

This property is based in the Dordogne (often referred to by its ancient name "The Périgord"). Although times may have changed over the years the beautiful Dordogne landscape, in one of the most beautiful areas of France, continues to offer something to amaze and delight everyone. This ancient land, deep in the heart of sunny south-west France, is perfect holiday country; a magical place that will reward all those who choose to explore it.
The Périgord Noir where the vast majority of our properties are located, is the 'Jewel in the Crown' of the Dordogne for here, in the triangle formed between the rivers Vézère and Dordogne, you will find the greatest concentration of natural wonders and historic sites, and the loveliest stretches of both rivers. The area is bounded by four famous towns and this property is well situated within this boundary - Sarlat, a medieval treasure house; Périgueux, a thriving and sophisticated small city; Bergerac, shippers of wine since the Middle ages and Monpazier, an extraordinarily well preserved bastide built by King Edward I in 1285.
Less then 1 hour from Bergerac airport, 1.5 hours from Brive airport, 2.5 hours from Bordeaux airport/TGV station and 2.5 hours from Toulouse airport.
